Fact Check: Simpsons Did NOT Predict Coldplay Kiss Cam Controversy Online Rumor

Did The Simpsons cartoon series "predict" the kiss camera incident in which Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was shown on a large screen snuggling his coworker during a July 16, 2025 Coldplay concert? No, that's not true: The image circulating on social media was a meme. The specific episode mentioned in some of the posts spreading the meme had a different storyline.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here and here) published on TikTok on July 19, 2025. It showed two characters seen in the round kisscam display as they hug. The hashtag above it read:

#simpsonprediction.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

Some of the posts that shared the image were more specific, They alleged (archived here) that the picture came from "season 26, episode 10" and was aired on "1/04/2015." That episode (archived here), however, was centered around a family trip to an amusement park, not around a controversy similar to the one involving a kiss camera (archived here) and two adults snuggling at a Coldplay concert while married to other people.

One episode aired in 2010 (archived here) featured Coldplay's cameo appearance on the cartoon show, and that was covered by the BBC, but the storyline didn't involve an alleged affair accidentally revealed by a camera.

"Simpsons predicted" is a sub-genre of online memes that either alleges retrospective connections between real-life events and series content that aired years before it. Some make up such parallels, using unrelated images or AI-generated fake Simpsons panels. Lead Stories wrote about it here.
