Did gay dating apps publicly threaten to out closeted members of the U.S. Congress if same-sex marriage is repealed by the Supreme Court? No, that's not true: The claim originated from an account that publishes "true comedy and satire", according to its self-description. No credible media outlets reported on the purported pact that gay dating apps agreed to.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on Threads on August 12, 2025. It opened:
BREAKING: Several gay dating apps are reportedly threatening that, if the Supreme Court bans gay marriage, they'll reveal all the closeted Republican officials and members of Congress who have accounts on their platforms.
This is what the post looked like on Threads at the time of writing:

The origins of the claim, however, can be traced to a self-described satire account on X that published a similar post (archived here) on August 11, 2025. That account's bio (archived here) said that it posts "true comedy and satire". The bio reads:
Dadaist graffiti news. Halfway true comedy and satire by @DashMacIntyre.. I don't report the facts, I improve them. Comedy is cathartic in fascist eras like ours
The claim appeared on social media after the emergence of news reports (for example, here and here) about a July 2025 petition (archived here) to the Supreme Court to revisit the landmark decision about same-sex marriage.
Searches across Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) didn't produce any relevant results corroborating the rumor that any gay dating apps made the purported announcement.
