Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Portland, Oregon City Council Members Refusing To Stand For Pledge Of Allegiance -- Footage From Portland, Maine Maine Meeting

Does a video show several Portland, Oregon City Council members refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? No, that's not true: This video clip was not filmed in Oregon. It shows the city council chambers of Portland, Maine.

The video clip was linked in a post on X (archived here) published by @SonyasCrafts on Oct. 13, 2025. It is captioned:

Video is going VIRAL showing several City Council members in Portland, Oregon REFUSING to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Clicking on the image in the X post redirects to the website thescoopz.com (archived here) where the 17-second video clip (pictured below) is hosted with the same incorrect caption.

The original video (embedded below) was first published on X (archived here) on Oct. 7, 2025 by The Maine Wire which touts itself as "Maine's fastest growing investigative reporting outlet." The outlet's logo is blue and gold and many of their featured videos have a rotating blue and gold gradient border. Not only does the video show the Portland, Maine City Council chambers, it bears the branded formatting of The Maine Wire.

The city council chambers of Portland, Oregon were remodeled last year. A picture looking down from the balcony to the chamber floor (pictured below) was posted in a Dec. 13, 2024 koin.com article, "Portland City Council returning to remodeled City Hall".
