Fact Check: Elon Musk Did NOT Acquire Donald Trump's Truth Social For $10 Billion Made-Up Story

Did Elon Musk acquire Donald Trump's Truth Social for $10 billion in November 2025? No, that's not true: A message purporting to be from Donald Trump's Truth Social account was fake. The person who posted a fake screenshot of the fake message wrote that they did so to entertain themselves. There are no news reports of Musk buying Truth Social for $10 billion.

The claim appeared in a November 25, 2025 post on X.com account @camolNFT article (archived here). It opened:

BREAKING 🇺🇸: Elon Musk acquires Truth Social for $10B.

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The image in the post appears to be a post on Trump's Truth Social account but a search of the platform for the phrase "I am thrilled to announce my dear friend" yielded no relevant results.

The X account @camolNFT posted a reply to their post, admitting that Trump screenshot was fake, writing, "Timeline is boring and I wanted to entertain myself," as this screenshot shows:

Trump selling Truth Social to Musk for $10 billion would have been major news. However, searches on Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) yielded no relevant results, further underlining the story's fictional nature.
