Fact Check: Person Who Is Not A U.S. Citizen And Arrived In NYC Two Days Ago Did NOT Vote For Mamdani For Mayor -- Poster "Yazan" Says It Was A Hoax It's A Joke

Did a person who is not a U.S. citizen or even a resident arrive in New York City two days before the election and vote for Mamdani for mayor? No, that's not true: The poster admitted that it was a joke post. To debunk their own joke, they showed where they found the picture of a ballot showing Zohran Mamdani's name. Unregistered voters in New York who register at the polling place are given a different ballot, submitted with registration documents that include documentation to prove they live in New York.

The claim appeared in a November 4, 2025 X.com account @YazanXBT post (archived here) which opened:

Arrived in NYC 2 days ago I'm not a U.S. citizen or even a resident I was able to get in and vote early All what they needed was an address so I gave them one Voted for Mamdani Let's go New York!

The account posted a follow up message writing that the post wasn't real and sharing the X.com account @aubreyvision where they took found their "ballot":

By law, an unregistered voter in New York City elections does not vote using the standard polling place ballot scanner. Their ballot, called an affidavit ballot, must be submitted with a completed voter registration application, which requires ID that proves residence in New York, according to the Board of Elections website.
