Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Muslims Protesting A Christmas Fair In Germany -- Clip From Pro-Palestinian Anti-Israel March First Appeared October, 2024 Mislabled Clip

Does a viral video show Muslims protesting against a Christmas fair in Germany? No, that's not true: The video has circulated since October, 12, 2024, showing a demonstration in Hamburg, Germany, against Israel and in solidarity with Palestinians. The time stamp on the 2024 posts puts the march a full month before Germany's traditional Christmas markets begin, according to tour planners. The 2025 re-post of the video also appeared before German Christmas fair season.

When the video went viral in 2025, it appeared in a November 17, 2025 X post (archived here) on the @TruthFairy131. The video included an on-screen caption declaring "Thousands of Muslim immigrants have arrived to the Christmas festivity fair in Germany to protest against the tradition, that goes against their beliefs and Islam". Below the video, the post read:

Muslims surround a Christmas Market in Germany & aggressively chant "There is no God but Allah & Muhammad is his messenger" We CANNOT coexist with this medieval barbaric ideology in the West. This is not acceptable & Islamists must be removed from the West. These people are intimidating, terrorising, threatening, asserting dominance & harming our people while Western leaders protect & enable them. We DON'T have to live like this. What you allow will continue.

Here's what the post looked like on X at the time this fact check was written:

Here's the same video, posted in 2024 on a number of pages, including the X page of Visegrad24 archived here), which is a political news site that says its mission is "to uphold the foundational values of the West". Visegrad24's post said the marchers were demonstrating in favor of Sharia Law, but mainstream German newsrooms like Die Welt reported the focus of the March was criticism of Israel, not imposition of Sharia Law.

Here, for example is the Oct. 14, 2024 headline from Die Welt:

Several posts in both 2024 and 2025, as well as news coverage, identified the city where the march occurred was Hamburg, where the 2025 Christmas markets had not begun yet, according to Christmas Markets Germany, (archived here) a website for people planning visits to the seasonal fairs.

Lead Stories scanned the schedule for other German cities, finding no Christmas markets had yet begun as of the day the video was posted by @TruthFairy131.

The only 2025 Christmas market underway on the day the video was posted was in Roncalliplatz next to Cologne Cathedral. Neither the expansive Roncalliplatz, nor the massive Gothic cathedral, shown in Google searches (archived here) for images of the area, are seen in the video.
