Is a video of a hyena biting a woman's hand through an open car window authentic? No, that's not true: The video was made by an artificial intelligence tool, according to an AI detection tool. Inconsistencies in the video, especially with hands and fingers, are obvious indications the video is not real. The woman's hand was uninjured after the purported mauling.
The video was shared across social media platforms, including this video (archived here) posted on X on November 1, 2025 with a caption that read:

Lead Stories submitted the video to the specialized detection tool Hive which concluded it was 99.7 percent likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content:

A frame-by-frame examination of the video shows odd hand and finger movements, but the lack of blood after the attack is a major red flag that it is not real.

After the animal withdrew from the window, letting go of the hand, there were no signs of injury.
