Was a Catholic nun fatally stabbed in Croatia by an "unnamed migrant man" in late November 2025? No, that's not true: Sister Marija Tatjana Zrno is alive. Police concluded she stabbed herself and they were investigating her for filing a false crime report.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X on December 1, 2025. It read:
A Catholic nun has been stabbed to death by a migrant in Croatia. The unnamed migrant man attacked Sister Marija Tatjana Zrno in the street in a religiously-motivated terror attack. If she were a Jewish rabbi or a Muslim imam, her face would be plastered across every mainstream channel and on the front page of every newspaper. But she was a Catholic nun. And, just like the genocide of Catholics in Nigeria or the street killings of Christians in Pakistan, the world is turning a blind eye. Where are the headlines? Where are the protests? Where is the outrage? Why are they silent? Ah, yes. Because it isn't 'fashionable' to care about Christian lives. Maria deserved better. And if the rest of the world won't do anything, we must step up and speak out. For Maria and every Christian like her who has lost their life for practicing their faith. We must pray for her peace. And fight for her justice. Remember Sister Marija Tatjana Zrno.

The initial police report (archived here) said, as translated by Google, that the woman was hospitalized after being "slightly injured" by "a sharp object in the abdomen" on November 29, 2025.
On December 2, 2025, the law enforcement issued another statement (archived here) that read:
...after being discharged from the hospital, the 35-year-old woman filed a criminal complaint against an unknown perpetrator at the official police premises for the criminal offense of attempted serious bodily harm. In the report, she stated to the police officers that an unknown perpetrator approached her and injured her with a knife, after which she sought medical attention at a hospital in the Zagreb area. After receiving medical attention, she was diagnosed with minor injuries.
During further criminal investigation, after collecting operational information indicating that the report was possibly false, police officers continued with intensive checks and determined that the woman had falsely reported a criminal offense with the aim of misleading the police, although she was aware that by making a false report she was committing a criminal offense. The investigation determined that she had injured herself with a knife that she had previously purchased in a store in the Zagreb area, which was confirmed during the proceedings.
The statement said police were investigating the woman "on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of falsely reporting a criminal offense."
The story was covered by Croatian media organizations, as seen here (archived here) and here (archived here).
