Did a real photo from July 14, 1985, recently surface that shows Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein together on a yacht wearing swim briefs? No, that's not true: At least two images surfaced online on Sept. 11, 2026, one with an AI label. Content detection tools from Hive Moderation and OpenAI both determined the images were made with AI.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published by the @Denise26340978 account on X on Sept. 11, 2026. It read:

A different version of this image was published on Facebook (archived here) on Sept. 11, 2026, by the page USA Trend Lab (pictured below). The Facebook image is a long vertical image while the X image is almost square, 552 by 504 pixels. These are not different croppings of the same image. Both images have a filter effect which makes them resemble faded and worn real photographs, but the speckles and creases are in different locations. Both have a "JUL 14 1985" timestamp. There are small differences in the background coastline scenery and yachts. These differences are consistent with two independently generated AI images, not two photographs of the same place. One example is the dark band on the hillside visible behind Trump's shoulder -- in the vertical image it appears thicker than in the square image.
The post by USA Trend Lab is labelled "AI content" and the caption reads:
NEWLY DISCOVERED PHOTO SPARKS QUESTIONS ABOUT TRUMP & EPSTEIN
A "newly discovered" photo circulating online reportedly shows Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein aboard a yacht off the Florida Keys, with the image dated July 14, 1985. The photograph is being shared as another piece of the long-running story surrounding Trump's past social relationship with Epstein. However, the exact date, location and circumstances surrounding this particular image should be independently verified before treating the claims attached to it as established fact.Previously reported archival material has documented Trump and Epstein appearing together at social events during the 1990s, including footage and photographs uncovered by CNN. Trump's past association with Epstein has been widely reported, while the existence of a photograph together does not by itself establish criminal wrongdoing. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}The photo is now generating renewed discussion online, especially as public attention remains focused on the broader release and review of Epstein-related records. What do you think deserves the most attention when old photos and newly surfaced records like this appear -- the authenticity and context of the material, or the broader history surrounding the people involved?

Lead Stories uploaded both images to Hive Moderation, where the AI-Generated Content Detection Tool determined with a high confidence that both images were likely to be AI-generated (pictured below). It gave a rating of 99.9% likely to be AI-generated to the square image (archived here) and a rating of 97.4% likely to be AI-generated to the vertical image (archived here).

Lead Stories also uploaded the images to OpenAI where the Verify tool detected a SynthID watermark in each (archived here and here). This indicated that both images were made with OpenAI's tools (pictured below).
