Fact Check: Melania Did NOT Glare At Donald Trump When He Chatted With Mexico's Claudia Sheinbaum At FIFA World Cup Draw -- Real Video Was Altered Edited Clip

Did Melania Trump glare at Donald Trump when he chatted with Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum at the FIFA World Cup Final Draw? No, that's not true: The footage showing Melania looking annoyed is not real and has been edited. Donald Trump chatted with Sheinbaum and Mark Carney, as well as the first lady during the event.

The altered video was posted (archived here) on TikTok by @won2skel on Dec. 6, 2025. The automatic TikTok translation of the Spanish caption reads:

👀💥Here is the part that does not appear in any of the videos published, Melania Trump jealous watching how the orange cheto was daring to talk to the great #EsUnHonorEstarConClaudiaHoy Claudia Sheinbaum in the #World Cup2026 FIFA. That's why #ConClaudia Viva la 4T

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

The original caption in Spanish says:

👀💥Acá la parte que no sale en ningunos de los videos publicados, Melania Trump celosa viendo como el cheto naranja se desvivía por platicar con la gran #EsUnHonorEstarConClaudiaHoy Claudia Sheinbaum en el #Mundial2026 FIFA. Por eso #MexicoConClaudia Viva la 4T

The face of Melania Trump in the photo above has been altered. The original footage of this event at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., was broadcast live on Dec. 5, 2025 by Reuters and is posted on YouTube (archived here). The exact moment at time code 01:31:30 can be compared in the Lead Stories composite image below. The first lady had a downward gaze and a blank expression at that moment. Trump also leaned to his left and was conversing with the first lady just before and just after the pictured moment when he was speaking with Sheinbaum.

Throughout the Reuters footage, the audience was filmed in changing light, sometimes in darkness and sometimes a spotlight panned over the crowd. The screenshot above shows a brief moment of illumination -- only three seconds later (by 01:31:33), the crowd was again in darkness. The authentic still image from the Reuters footage appears to have been used to generate additional footage with AI. The TikTok video is 12 seconds long and shows bright illumination throughout. The gestures Trump makes with his hands do not align with the gestures he actually made. The short upturned AI-generated nose of Melania Trump in the fake video is not even consistent throughout the video (pictured below left). The side view of Melania Trump does not match the first lady's true profile, compared with a CSPAN video posted on Dec. 8, 2025 (below right).
