Fact Check: Rob Reiner Did NOT Post Anti-Trump Tweet In 2023 -- Fake Message Fake Tweet

Did Rob Reiner post an anti-Trump tweet in 2023 saying he would not be posting on Twitter until Trump goes to prison? No, that's not true: The tweet is fake, and Reiner at that time replied that it was not from his account. Reiner's X account was deactivated shortly after his death on Dec. 14, 2025.

The claim appeared in a Dec. 15, 2025 post on X.com account @LangmanVince (archived here) with the caption "I can't believe President Trump sent out a mean post about Rob Reiner today 🤔". The image of a tweet in the post read:

"Until Trump goes to prison I will no longer be posting on Twitter. I've had it with the insults and put downs. Fuck all of you MAGA assholes."

This is what the image of the tweet looked like on X.com at the time of writing:

This is a fake message. Similar messages circulated on Jan. 20, 2023, and Reiner responded with a tweet, writing, "This is not my account." An archived link to the tweet is here and this is a screenshot showing his message:

Reiner's X account was deleted after he and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found murdered in their Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14, 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with the killings, the Associated Press reported (archived here).

The fabricated tweet resurfaced after Trump posted a message (archived here) insulting Reiner following his death on Truth Social. The fake tweet was used to falsely claim that Reiner had previously posted an insulting message about Trump, justifying Trump's message.

An archived search of Reiner's X account captured in 2023 by Reuters did not find any such post.
