Does a video show real footage of a U.K. member of Parliament asking why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not been captured the same way the United States captured Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela? No, that's not true: The clip was generated using artificial intelligence. Early versions of the video included a watermark indicating a specific generative AI tool. There is no evidence that a member of Parliament in the United Kingdom made any such comment about Netanyahu following Maduro's capture.
The claim appeared in a January 5, 2026 video posted on X.com account @Partisan_12 (archived here). It opened:
"If the United States can conduct an operation in Venezuela to capture Nicolás Maduro, an elected president, and put him on trial in American courts, then why is it impossible to capture Benjamin Netanyahu from Israel and bring him before international court?"
This is what the video looked like on X.com at the time of writing:

An earlier version of the video, posted on the TikTok account @travelwkashmiri on Jan. 4, 2026, shows a Sora watermark clearly visible in the top right corner of the screen, as shown in this screenshot (red circle added by Lead Stories):

Sora (archived here) is an app developed by OpenAI that uses AI to create realistic-looking videos from a text prompt, which raised concerns among disinformation and misinformation experts from the app's early days on the market. Lead Stories, among others, reported that Sora has been repeatedly employed to spread false claims concerning immigration, natural disasters, politics and wars.
There are no records of a member of Parliament making such a statement about Netanyahu, according to a search of the U.K. Parliament website (archived here), which included day-by-day listings of events in the House of Commons, House of Lords and parliamentary committees.
A keyword search on Google (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) did not find any legitimate news reports that a member of parliament in the U.K. called for the capture of Netanyahu.
