Fact Check: Fake "Mean Gene" Okerlund Interview With "Real" Guys Who Look Just Like Beavis And Butt-Head Is AI-Generated AI Generated

Did "Mean Gene" Okerlund interview two "real" guys who bear an uncanny resemblance to the cartoon characters Beavis and Butt-Head? No, that's not true: This video is AI-generated. Gene Okerlund died in 2019. The AI-generated "real" Beavis and Butt-Head look-alikes are just as fictional as the animated characters. Several versions of the fake interview with the same dialogue have been circulating since late 2025.

The AI-generated video was shared in a post (archived here) published on X on March 31, 2026 by @Gunblaze1969. It is captioned:

These guys are real

Gene Okerlund, a journalist who became famous as a professional wrestling announcer, died in Sarasota, Florida on Jan. 2, 2019 (archived here). The dialogue of the fake "Mean Gene" interview follows:

Mean Gene: They've been loitering by the soundboard all night, what are you two hoping to see out there?
Butt-Head: Somebody get power bombed so hard they see the future.
Mean Gene: Like maybe a solo so loud it melts nacho cheese off the chips?
Butt-Head: Loud nachos rule.

The Hive Moderation AI-Generated Content Detection tool concluded the video was 70% 'likely to be AI-generated.' Portions of the video (pictured below) registered as high as 97% 'likely to be AI-generated.'

Using a screenshot from the video posted by @Gunblaze1969 and Google Lens reverse image search, Lead Stories found several additional versions of this fake interview. The videos shared similar dialogue, and the t-shirts the Beavis and Butt-Head characters wear are variations on the same theme. According to the Beavis and Butt-Head Wiki, there is no record (archived here) of the cartoon Beavis wearing a shirt that says "Mega-Vulture," although all of the AI-generated videos feature that fake band name. One video was published (archived here) on TikTok on Dec. 26, 2025 by @toorealmedia (pictured below). In this version the glowing green Mega-Vulture skull also has crossbones and a viking helmet. The dialogue of the interview:

Mean Gene: They've been loitering by the soundboard all night, what are you two hoping to see out there?
Butt-Head: Somebody get power bombed so hard they see the future.
Beavis: Check out the chrome dude, fresh braces.

Another version of this scene was posted by @theflexfandom on Instagram on Jan. 18, 2026 (archived here). This video has the same dialogue as the @Gunblaze1969 video and a simplified Mega-Vulture skull T-shirt design (pictured below).
