Fact Check: FAKE Rachel Maddow Segment Claiming A Judge Forced Melania Trump To Testify Never Said

Did Rachel Maddow air a segment claiming that a federal judge has ruled that Melania Trump must testify against her husband? No, that's not true: Maddow never aired a segment that said a judge ruled Melania Trump will be forced to testify in any case. While the chyron on the video says Melania will be forced to testify, the audio in the video does not make that claim or show evidence that a judge will do so. An online detection tool rated the video as 99.9% likely AI-generated.

The claim appeared in a video posted on Feb. 26, 2026, on TikTok account @user978129382312 (archived here and here). It opened:

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

There is no evidence that Maddow ever aired a segment where she claimed a "federal judge has ruled that Melania Trump must answer every question posed to her, a decision that carries significant implications for former President Donald Trump," as the caption in the post claims. The audio never states that a federal judge ordered Melania Trump to testify.

Had Maddow reported Melania Trump been ordered to testify by a federal judge, it would have been major news. Lead Stories searched key phrases about Melania, the judge and Rachel Maddow on Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching results.

The Hive Moderation AI-Generated Content Detection tool rated the video as 99.9% 'likely to be AI-generated':

Telltale signs in the video of AI include Maddow's head moving up and down repeatedly in the same manner throughout the entire video. Her head ticks to the side while she is talking and her hands are raised together in the exact same motion multiple times in the video.
