Was a man named "François Faivre", the supposed surgeon who "announced Brigitte Macron's transgender transformation," found dead in Paris in June 2026? No, that's not true: Lead Stories searched the French national registry of the deceased but found no exact matches. The claim came from a video showing AI-generated people that has resurfaced on the internet multiple times since 2025.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X by @Trustintrump47 on August 3, 2026. It opened:

No traces of the man among the living or the dead
In the clip, the French voice-over continued, per WhisperTranscribe:

A Google search for the French keywords seen here (archived here) across French-registered websites, including government portals, for the period between the date of the supposed death and this writing did not produce any corroboration for the viral story.
When Lead Stories searched the Tableau de l'Ordre database that lists medical professionals licenced in France for a surgeon named "François Faivre", the online directory said, as translated by DeepL:

A broad search across the same database for the purported colleague of the supposedly deceased man didn't show anyone with the last name "Dubuis" whose first or second name would be "Patrick":

The origin of the video
The clip from the post that is the center of this fact check showed a logo:

Translated as "Today's Survey" by DeepL, that was the name of a French website enquetedujour.fr. More than one year earlier, on July 1, 2025, it published a now-deleted article that made the same claim. The saved copy of the page displayed the thumbnail identical to that from the post reviewed in this fact check. As of this writing, most recent articles displayed on that website (archived here) were from the spring of 2024.
In January 2026, roughly half a year after that story's publication, Brigitte Macron won a defamation lawsuit in France (archived here) over unsubstantiated claims that she was born a man and moved to sue (archived here) podcaster Candace Owens in Delaware (archived here) over similar allegations. Unrelated footage
Lead Stories geolocated the footage from the viral video. It was recorded in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, between the Porte de Vincennes subway station and the Boulevard Périphérique largely considered to be the divider between the French capital and surrounding suburbs:

The footage, however, predated not only the post studied in this fact check but the now-deleted 2025 article, too. It was originally published by the AFP in November 2022 (archived here), and its caption made it clear that the video showed an absolutely unrelated scene. As translated by Chrome, it read:
A security perimeter has been established on the Cours de Vincennes, where a man was killed by police gunfire.
AI-generated people
The video featured what it described as a real video interview with the deceased surgeon, but that section contained several inconsistencies strongly pointing to AI. While most people blink between 15 and 20 times per minute (archived here), the man in the clip miraculously goes without it for 40 seconds in a row. At the same time, we see a strange design of the background wall: The wooden panel abruptly ends exactly behind that person's chair, leaving the room appearing unusually assymentrical.
Hive Moderation ruled that the video was likely to have been made by AI:

The woman introduced as the sister of the deceased surgeon was not a human, either. Hive Moderation and Sightengine ruled that this person was either 95.7% or 96% likely to have been created by AI:
