Does a video show a real incident where two erratically-driven golf carts cross into traffic near Naperville, Illinois? No, that's not true: The video has repeatedly been labeled as AI-generated across social media and shows clear signs of being AI-generated. Additionally, there are no credible reports of such an event occurring.
The claim appeared in a post made on X by the account @CensoredTube on Sept. 5, 2026 (archived here). It included a video showing people in golf carts driving through two lanes of vehicles. The video begins with a voice saying,
Oh no way, no way. Are they going for the road?

A reverse image search on Google Images (archived here) revealed that the video has circulated online since at least April 2, 2026, as shown here (archived here) and here (archived here). There are no AI labels included with these posts.
However, a version of the video with a story about the scene occurring in Naperville, Illinois, has been online since at least April 3, 2026, as shown here (archived here). Within a few days, however, the video was alleged to have occurred in different locations, such as this post that says the scene happened in Arlington Heights, Illinois (archived here). Each description describes the scene in detail, highlighting the dangers of driving small vehicles on public roads. These videos' descriptions ended with an identical statement about the video being AI-generated:
This video is created using AI, and the story is for your entertainment.
The video contains highly improbable moments, such as a person in one of the golf carts driving on its back two wheels and cars continuing to drive forward while the two golf carts zip around the road. Results from the AI detection tools Hive Moderation and FauxLens indicate that the video is AI-generated. Screenshots of the results are included below:

Searches on Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) of "video AND 'golf carts' AND Illinois AND 'public roads'" did not generate any results matching any version of video or its various descriptions.
