Fact Check: Canadian Park DENIES Image Shows Niagara Falls Turning Blue Because Of Nov. 3, 2026, Blue Wave In U.S. Unrelated Pic

Does a viral image show Niagara Falls lit up blue to celebrate Democrats winning control of Congress in the 2026 midterms? No, that's not true: According to the spokesperson for the body managing the falls on the Canadian side, political messaging is not allowed under the park's policies. On Nov. 3, 2026, the lights were announced as teal -- for Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) on X where it was published by @nathancullen on Nov. 3, 2026. The caption read:

Please tell this is true! Did Canada light up our side of the Falls blue? Please say it's so! #midterm #cdnpoli

This is what the image attached to the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

On Nov. 3, 2026, the U.S. held midterm elections, which resulted in the Democratic Party -- whose color is blue -- winning the majority in both chambers of Congress (archived here).

However, the viral image of Niagara Falls shared on social media was unrelated to that outcome.

On the Canadian side, the falls are managed by Niagara Parks (archived here) -- a body that describes itself as a "self-funded agency of the Government of Ontario under the Ministry of Tourism".

According to the official illumination calendar (archived here) on its website, the lights were not blue on Nov. 3, 2026, or around that day:

Katy Wassenaar, a senior manager of public affairs at Niagara Parks, told Lead Stories via email on Nov. 4, 2026:

All Niagara Falls illuminations are administered by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board. Partisan political displays are not permitted under the policies and guidelines of the board. The image that is circulating on social media is a teal illumination for Alzheimer's Awareness Month last night.
