Religion, immigration, Iran helped keep Donald Trump at the top of the latest Lead Stories' Trendolizer Political Ranking, which show the billionaire getting almost 60% of all social network interest among Republican presidential candidates.
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton almost evenly split the likes, posts, pins and tweets relevant to the Democrats, with Joe Biden getting a significant share despite not being an official candidate, according to the measurements from the 4 p.m. ET hour on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
The political ranking analyzes the top 10 posts for each candidate on a range of social networks worldwide as identified by the Trendolizer. While Lead Stories is publishing measurements from just one hour of each day, our political portal will soon feature realtime, 24-7 results on the Campaign 2016 Trendolizer portal.
The numbers do not reflect support, since it includes negative posts. It does offer a scientific measurement of how much interest there is in a candidate at the moment on social networks.
Wednesday afternoon's snapshot shows Trump gathering likes at a rate of 29,015 per hour, which is 7,000 more than all 15 other GOP candidates combined. And unlike Tuesday -- when a photo of a cat with Trump's trademark hair was trending -- most of the hottest posts were serious and supportive of Trump.
The top Trump post for the hour was published by the Conservative Tribune and titled "Donald Trump Made Huge Announcement To All Christians ... He's The Only One Saying This." The posting was based on a Trump comment from weeks ago in which he is quoted saying "The Christians are being treated horribly because we have nobody to represent the Christians. Believe me, if I run and I win, I will be the greatest representative of the Christians they've had in a long time."
Far behind Trump was Ted Cruz with 6,496 likes per hour; Scott Walker with 2,560; Jeb Bush with 2,048; Bobby Jindal with 1954; Marco Rubio with 1,939; Rand Paul with 1,792; Lindsey Graham with 1521; Rick Perry with 1024; Chris Christie with 857; Ben Carson with 738; Jim Webb with 397; Rick Santorum with 357; Carly Fiorina with 348; Mike Huckabee with 232; George Pataki with 97; Lincoln Chafee with 69; John Kasich with 41.
Among Democrats, online interest in Bernie Sanders appears higher than for Hillary Clinton. While Sanders' 12,426 likes counted during the 4 p.m. hour Wednesday was only slighter more than Clinton's 11,780, the Vermont senator has consistently outpaced Clinton in the same hour earlier in the week. Joe Biden postings were likes 5,901 times in the hour, which is a sharp rise for the non-candidate. Democrat Lincoln Chafee had just 69 likes for the hour.
