Blast From The Past: Al Gore Considering 2016 Presidential Run?

  • by: Alan Duke

Friends of Al Gore, the Democrat who would have been present but for a few hanging chads, are considering if he should enter the topsy-turvy 2016 presidential campaign, according to a trending Buzzfeed story.

The report quotes a source identified as "a senior Democrat" saying the "they're getting the old gang together," and they're "figuring out if there's a path financially and politically" for the former vice president to jump into the race for the Democratic nomination he held in 2000.

But the source also cautioned Buzzfeed "not to overstate Gore's interest" in going back to the future by leaving the business world to return to politics.

Several other media reports, including from CNN and ABC doused some water on the speculation.

The rise of "Socialist Democrat" Bernie Sanders in the polls against Hillary Clinton, who had been perceived as a shoe-in for the nomination, has also prompted supporters of Joe Biden to explore a possible presidential bid for the current vice president.
