Erykah Badu directed this unusual music video as part of Robert Glasper's project to reinterpret the music of Miles Davis. This song is "Maiysha (So Long)."
Badu plays a "neurotic, beatnik chanteuse" named Sarah Bellam who is seen backstage before a show. She argues with her keyboardist and partner played by Glasper as she preps for a minimalist performance. As the lights dim on set following the song, Bellam freaks out over the quality of the performance and the set as Glasper attempts to console her. The pair continue to abandon the musicians -- drummer Rashad "Ringo" Smith, bassist Braylon Lacy and trumpet player Frédéric Yonnet -- who stand still in the dark.
Badu is one of several guests to collaborate with Glasper as he reworked Davis' catalog. Illa J, Bilal, Hiatus Kaiyote, Laura Mvula, KING and Stevie Wonder were among those to offer their own visions of the jazz standards.
