While you may have wondered about Dr. Ben Carson's scientific intellect because of his firm belief that the theory of evolution is a clever plot by Satan to descredit God's word, it is not true that the neurosurgeon's license to operate has been revoked in all 50 U.S. states.
An article about the license revocation published in the Huffington Post has been trending on social networks, but as we say here at Lead Stories: Just because it's trending doesn't make it true.
In fact, it is a satirical column written by Flora Nicholas, who has published a series of satires for the HuffPost. In case you were not aware, satire is defined as "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."
Nicholas' satire quotes a fictional joint statement by all 50 state medical boards saying that officials have been "increasingly concerned about the gibberish emanating from Mr. Carson's cerebrum. We cite by way of example his belief that the holocaust could have been prevented by armed German citizens, that straight people go into prison and come out gay, and that Obamacare is the worse thing to happen to the country since slavery."
Carson, in fact, is one of the most accomplished neurosurgeons in the United States. He was the first doctor to successfully separate twins conjoined at the brain. He is also a frontrunner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, only slightly behind genius billionaire Donald Trump.
