What We Know About Claims That Jasmine 'Jassy' Witherspoon Died in Camp Mystic Floods What We Know

Was a 10-year-old girl, Jasmine "Jassy" Whitherspoon, among the Camp Mystic victims of the Texas floods in July 2025? As of this writing, there were no credible media reports about it. Here is what we know, so far.

The claim originated in a July 17, 2025, post (archived here) on Facebook. It read:

Little 10-year-old Jasmine "Jassy" Whitherspoon has been found; she is sadly confirmed deceased.

Jasmine was a camper at Camp Mystic during the flooding of the Guadalupe River. She was sadly swept away by the water.

She was hoping to make new friends and unforgettable memories. Our family is absolutely heartbroken, the family says.

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

Later posts (archived here) used a different spelling of the girl's last name: "Witherspoon".

Searches on Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) that incorporated both variations of the last name did not yield any relevant media reports confirming such a person was indeed among the flood victims in Texas in July 2025.

Lead Stories contacted the Trinity County Media account on Facebook via email, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Lead Stories contacted the Kerr County Sheriff's Department about the rumor, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

This story will be updated if further information becomes available.
