Fake News: Popeyes Chicken Employees Will NOT Be "Packing Heat" To "Smoke" Aggressive Customers

Will Popeyes Chicken employees now carry guns to subdue unruly customers upset about the chain running out of chicken sandwiches? No, that's not true: a tweet with that message seemingly coming from the company was actually posted by a parody account. It is not real.

The tweet in question was published by Twitter account @PopEyesCkn on August 25, 2019 (archived here) and it read

"PSA: Due to the recent attacks of Popeyes employees by angry customers upset about running out of chicken sammiches; employees will now be packing heat and will straight up smoke your ass if you get aggressive. Thank you, The Popeyes Team."

To Twitter users the tweet would have looked something like this:

Eagle-eyed readers will already have spotted the bio of the Twitter account in the screenshot. It read:

Come at me bible beaters! (Parody)

The real Twitter account of Popeyes Chicken (@popeyeschicken) has made no threats involving firearms but it did apologize for running out of chicken sandwiches:

So enjoy your Popeyes in peace!
