Fact Check: Sidney Powell Did NOT File A Lawsuit Against Dominion On November 14, 2021 -- It Was Filed In September 2021 Filed Earlier

Did Sidney Powell, an attorney who previously worked for former President Donald Trump, file a lawsuit against Dominion Voting Systems on November 14, 2021? No, that's not true: Powell filed a counterclaim in September 2021 in response to a suit from Dominion. At the time of writing, the counterclaim is facing a motion of dismissal from Dominion.

The claim appeared in the title of a Facebook video (archived here) posted on November 14, 2021. The title of the video read:

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

Dominion filed a complaint against Powell on January 8, 2021, for what they allege was misinformation she spread about its voting systems following the 2020 Presidential election. On September 24, 2021, Powell filed a counterclaim against Dominion, claiming that Dominion's complaint was made to "punish and make an example" of her. On November 15, 2021, Dominion filed a motion to dismiss Powell's counterclaim. More information about the case can be found here.

The video included in the post was from The Stew Peters Show. Powell and her legal team did file the counterclaim the day the episode was originally posted on September 24, 2021. Powell was a guest on the episode and spoke about the counterclaim and a legal challenge she was involved in about the Electoral Count Act.

However the post originated on a Facebook account that appears to recycle stolen content from other sites, similar to this network of pages/accounts Lead Stories wrote about earlier. It appears this particular account has a particular fondness for stealing old content from the Stew Peters show and presenting it as new.

Lead Stories has previously debunked claims related to Powell, which can be found here.
