Fact Check: 'Fuck Joe Biden' Chant Dubbed In Mother's Day Video Of Biden And Granddaughter Leaving Church Edited Audio

Did a jeering crowd chant "Fuck Joe Biden" at the president as he was leaving church with his granddaughter on Mother's Day? No, that's not true: The audio on this video clip has been edited to add the sound of an aggressive crowd chanting. In the original C-SPAN video there is no sound of a chanting crowd. One reporter called out, "How did you celebrate Mother's Day, Mr. President?" Another reporter's question about Russia was barely audible.

The altered video (archived here) was published on TikTok on May 14, 2024, by @raul283747373. The post had no caption but titles on the video read:

Creepy Sleepy Joe With His Grand Daughter On Mother's Day 🤮🤮🤮
Everyday Is A FJB Day Until We Remove This Senile Clown From Office 🤡🤡🤡

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

This video has been altered to add the sound of a jeering crowd. There have been both real and faked instances of this anti-Biden chant in the past. Knowyourmeme.com has an article reviewing the September 2021 origins of the chant, and how that October, it became, "Let's Go Brandon." There have been several instances where video footage posted to social media has been edited to add a fake chanting audio track. Notably in 2022, Lead Stories, AFP and Reuters in 2022 published articles concerning a video of a speech by former President Barack Obama that was altered to include fake audio. In 2023 Snopes addressed a claim after the Maui, Hawaii, fires, and Factcheck.org covered a claim from the Army-Navy football game.

On Mother's Day -- May 12, 2024 -- Joe Biden attended a church service in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The same day, a 44-second video clip was posted by C-SPAN showing Biden's exit from the church with his granddaughter as they were escorted to the waiting car by Secret Service agents. There was no chanting. Two reporters called out questions to the president. One question elicited a reply, the other, which was difficult to hear in the video, did not. The C-SPAN video is captioned:

President Biden Responds to a Reporter's Question About Mother's Day
As President Biden exited church with his granddaughter, he responded to a reporters' question about how he spent Mother's Day. The president replied, 'I prayed for you all. You need help.' He then added, 'To those of you who are mothers, Happy Mother's Day.'
