Fact Check: Spoof 'Oscar Mayer Freedom Franks' Image Originated On Satirical Account Posting Fake Products Freedom Satire

Are "Oscar Mayer Freedom Franks" featuring red, white and blue sausages a real product? No, that's not true: A viral image of such wieners was created as a Fourth of July joke in 2023 by an Instagram account that says it creates "original memes, mashups & fake products". A search on Oscar Mayer's website did not show any such product actually being for sale.

The image first appeared in an Instagram post (archived here) published on July 4, 2023 with a caption that read:

Happy America, America.

#fakeproducts #4thofjuly #hotdogs #glizzygang #hotdog

This is the post in question:

The fake product was labeled "America Flavored Hot Dogs" and it described the ingredients as "uncured beef wieners flavored with vanilla, fruit punch and blue razzberry".

However, the Instagram account that created the image (archived here) has a bio that said it publishes "Original Memes, mashups & fake products."

A search of the website of Oscar Mayer for the phrase "freedom franks" did not return any results (archived here).
