Did FIFA President Gianni Infantino attack U.S. President Donald Trump over his role in the football Club World Cup Final trophy presentation, saying he "stole the glory that belongs to us"? No, that's not true: A widely-shared video contained fake audio of Infantino's voice. We found no corroboration for the claim that Infantino had lashed out at Trump.
The claim appeared in a July 14, 2025, post on TikTok (archived here), which bore the following caption:
FIFA President Gianni Infantino was very unhappy about Trump taking the trophy.#fyp #usa_tiktok #usa🇺🇸 #usa #fifa #trump #gianniinfantino #celebrity #foryoupage
The video itself consisted of a fake recording of Infantino's voice alongside a series of clips of Infantino, Trump, and the trophy presentation for English side Chelsea, who won the Club World Cup final on July 13, 2025. Trump was greeted by criticism in some quarters (archived here) for remaining on the podium with the winning team, rather than standing aside, after presenting the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James.
The following is a transcript of the fake recording of Infantino:
This robber stole the glory that belonged to us. I really don't understand what this trophy has to do with the president of the United States. This was the most ridiculous day of my life, and it happened right there on the Club World Cup podium.
After every Club World Cup ends, the trophy always goes back to headquarters -- quietly displayed in that building in Zurich, Switzerland, to be admired by the whole world. That's the custom, the rule, the respect for football history.
But this time, everything was broken. Trump stood in the center of the podium with all the cameras pointed at him, and the players were forced to squeeze to the side. I tried to push him aside but it was useless.
I brought the trophy to the White House, wanting to do a diplomatic display, and he even said to me "This trophy is beautiful, it would look great in my office." Our rules are crystal clear: the original is for display only, and teams can only take home a replica. And just like that, the most absurd trophy swap in football history was born.

In reality, Infantino never said any of that, and the audio was fake, most likely the product of AI.
If he had attacked Trump's role in the trophy presentation, calling him a "robber" who "stole the glory that belongs to us", Infantino's remarks would undoubtedly have formed the basis of immediate and widespread news coverage.
However, Google News and Yahoo! News searches (archived here and here) for the words "Trump", "Infantino" "trophy" and "robber" yielded no relevant results, demonstrating that no corroboration exists for either the underlying claim that Infantino was "very unhappy" about Trump's role in the trophy presentation, or the existence of the voice recording presented in the TikTok post.
