Fact Check: FAKE Post and Images Describe Woman Giving Birth During Texas Floods AI Generated

Did a viral post about the miraculous rescue of a woman who gave birth to her baby during floods in Texas in July 2025 authentically summarize a real-life story? No, that's not true: The post was based on an AI-generated composite image. We found no corroboration for the underlying story.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on Facebook on July 12, 2025. It read:

BREAKING: Everyone thought it was too late. A pregnant woman went missing in rising floodwaters just outside Houston--her screams drowned out by the storm. But nearly 10 hours later, a rescue team spotted something moving on the roof. Curled up next to a sodden tarp was a dog--barking frantically, unwilling to leave. And beneath that tarp? The woman, unconscious... and a newborn in her arms. She had given birth alone, in the flood. Doctors said that if the dog hadn't stayed behind, shielding the baby's body with its own, neither of them would have survived the cold. The surprise? No one knew whose dog it was. It only appeared when the water rose... and never left. They called it The Guardian. 🐾💔.

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

The post implied that the composite image authentically showed a real-life scene described in the caption. It did not, and the images contained several visual glitches typical of having been produced using AI.

For example, in each of the images, the baby did not have recognizable facial features, and in one of them, the mother's hand had a disproportionately large thumb:

Similarly, in one of the images the right wrist of the mother appears to disappear into the blanket, with an unexplained fragment of a hand visible over a small segment of the blanket:

Searches across Google News (archived here) and Yahoo News (archived here) did not show any credible reports corroborating the story described in the post on Facebook actually happened during the July 2025 deadly flash floods in Texas (archived here).
