Fact Check: Gavin Newsom Press Office Account Did NOT Post F-Bomb Responding To Bed Bath & Beyond Announcement No F-Bomb Post

Does an image show a real screenshot of the "Governor Newsom Press Office" X account posting "Fuck you. Bye." in response to a statement from Bed Bath & Beyond Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis? No, that's not true: The screenshot is fake, no such post appeared on the account in question. The account did respond to the Bed Bath & Beyond announcement about not opening new stores in California with a different post.

An example of the fake screenshot could be seen in this X post (archived here) published on August 20, 2025. The screenshot appeared to show an X post by the @GovPressOffice account that read:

FUCK YOU. BYE.

This is what the image in question looked like:

The @GovPressOffice account did respond to a screenshot of the Bed Bath & Beyond announcement on August 20, 2025 with a quote post (archived here) but it didn't contain the profanity in question:

Lead Stories used X's search feature to look for posts containing the phrase "FUCK YOU" on the @GovPressOffice account and no results were returned (archived here).

Searches on Google and Yahoo for the phrase "FUCK YOU" limited to links containing x.com/GovPressOffice using the "site:" search operator returned no relevant results (archived here and here), indicating neither Google nor Yahoo recently indexed such a post.

The @GovPressOffice account responded to the fake screenshot with a message saying they didn't post it (archived here):
