Fact Check: Gavin Newsom DID Not Win Nobel Peace Prize -- Trump Did Not 'Explode With Rage' About It Either Satire

Did California Governor Gavin Newsom win the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2025 and has President Donald Trump "exploded with rage" over the news? No, that's not true: The story originated on a well known satire publication named The Borowitz Report. There were no actual news reports about Newsom being awarded the prize.

The viral article (archived here) was published by The Borowitz Report on October 7, 2025 under a headline that read "Trump Explodes with Rage after Gavin Newsom Wins Nobel Peace Prize". It opened:

OSLO (The Borowitz Report)--Donald J. Trump reportedly "exploded with rage" on Tuesday after the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The story was also published on the Facebook page of The Borowitz Report (archived here) accompanied by a screenshot of just the headline:

The "about" page of The Borowitz Report (archived here) states:

If you're meeting me for the first time, I'm Andy Borowitz, a writer and comedian. I live in New Hampshire with my wife, daughter, and dog, a goldendoodle named Cookie. I'm not posting a photo of Cookie because if I did you'd want to subscribe to his newsletter instead of mine.

I've been writing satirical news since I was eighteen. This represents either commitment to a genre or arrested development.

In high school, I became editor of the newspaper solely because it produced an annual April Fool's issue. Later, as president of The Harvard Lampoon, I published parodies of the college newspaper, which got me hauled into the office of Dean Archie C. Epps III, which was his actual name.

For the next two decades, I took a break from news satire while I waited for the Internet to be invented. Then, in 2001, I started emailing made-up news stories to friends. One suggested that creating a "website" would make it easier to "blast" my "posts." Soon, The Borowitz Report was live at BorowitzReport.com, and my free newsletter was reaching untold dozens of people.

Just to be sure: a Google News search for news articles or reports mentioning both "Gavin Newsom" and "Nobel Prize" did not return any relevant results (archived here) that would confirm the claim.
