Fact Check: Oprah Winfrey Did NOT Give $1 Million To Chicago Mom Who Was Attacked By Kids No Donation

Did Oprah Winfrey give $1 million to the Chicago mom who was attacked by a group of kids? No, that's not true: The mom who was brutally assaulted on video has not posted anything about Winfrey giving her $1 million on her social media account. Her official GoFundMe has only $28,000 as of publication date. There are no legitimate news reports about Winfrey making a $1 million donation to the mom.

The claim appeared in a November 20, 2025 post on X.com account @IAmLilRico (archived here). It opened:

Corshwanda Hatter is the 33-year-old Chicago mother who was attacked by a group of children while trying to defend her own children on November 17, 2025. Video of the attack surfaced on social media, showing Hatter and her young son assaulted by a group of children. The attack was covered by multiple news outlets, including CBS Chicago on November 18, 2025.

The claim on the post on X.com/IAmLilRico that Winfrey gave the mom $1 million is not supported by any evidence or proof of the donation.

Hatter has warned about scam accounts raising money in her name and posted a message on her Facebook account @corshawanda warning people of the scheme. She shared a link to her GoFundMe page which has $28,000 in donations as of November 21, 2025, as this screenshot shows:

A $1 million donation by Winfrey to the mom who was attacked by the children would have been major news. A search of key phrases on Google (archived here) did not return any matching news reports of Winfrey making the donation, only copies of the clickbait story. The Yahoo! News index of partner news sites and news services (archived here) showed no legitimate news reports.
