Fact Check: Satirical California 'Rep. Jack Kimble' Post About Other Countries Considering Invading U.S. Over Corrupt President Is NOT Real Satire

Did Republican representative Jack Kimble make a post about other countries potentially invading the U.S. "if we ever had" a "highly corrupt leader" as President? No, that's not true: The post was satire from an account on X that pretends to be a non-existent Republican politician. A screenshot of the post that went viral did not identify the account as parody.

The quote appeared in a post on X (archived here) published by "Rep. Jack Kimble" on January 3, 2025:

Remember, Maduro is a highly corrupt leader, a known criminal who used his high office to make billions for himself, and has manipulated elections to stay in power, has used his military against his own citizens, has protected his corrupt friends and punished his political enemies. I imagine if we ever had a President like that, other countries might consider invading us to kidnap him too.

A screenshot of the post went viral on Bluesky here (archived here):

A search of the U.S. House of Representatives' official directory (archived here) turned up no trace of any current member of Congress called Jack Kimble, whether from California or any other state.

The same directory (archived here) showed that California has 52 congressional districts -- not 54, as stated in the Rep. Jack Kimble account on X.

The account's bio (archived here) says:

Republican Representing CA's 54th Dist. & co-sponsor of Poe's Law. Detective Jesus #1: Thou Shalt Not Kill is out on Amazon amzn.to/3aDgUmi.

"Poe's Law" is not an actual piece of legislation. TV Tropes (archived here) defines it as:

The core idea of Poe's Law is that a parody of something extreme can be mistaken for the real thing, and if a real thing sounds extreme enough, it can be mistaken for a parody (all because parodies are intrinsically extreme, in case you haven't noticed it). This can also happen to someone whose picture of the opposing position is such a grotesque caricature that it renders them unable to tell parody from reality.

The Amazon link in the bio points to an eBook by "Jack Kimble" titled, "Detective Jesus #1: Thou Shalt Not Kill." Clicking on Kimble's name led to a description of him on his Amazon profile page (archived here) that identified the Jack Kimble character as "the brainchild of a Chicago school teacher" and all about "political satire."

The description read, in part:

Jack Kimble is the Congressman from California's faux 54th District. In reality he is the brainchild of a Chicago school teacher. Kimble began making a name for himself on both Twitter and the blogosphere in 2009 with his unique brand of political satire.
