Fact Check: FAKE Photo Of People Magazine Post About Multi-Cultural Cast For 'Little House On The Prairie' Reboot Not Real Cast

Is this a real image of a People magazine post about the cast of Netflix's reboot of The Little House on the Prairie? No, that's not true: People did post a message on Facebook in January 2025 announcing a new version, but used a photo of the original cast from the 1970s series. The people shown in the image on X have not been announced as cast members as of the publication date. An AI detection tool rated the image as somewhat likely to be the product of generative AI image tools.

The claim appeared in a February 8, 2026, post on X.com account @alphafox article (archived here). It opened:

There is no way this is real, is there?? 😭

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The image is an altered version of a January 29, 2025, post on the People magazine Facebook page (archived here) with the announcement about the Netflix Little House on the Prairie reboot. The original post has the exact same wording as the hoax posted on X.com, but shows an image of the cast including Melissa Gilbert and Michael Landon from the show that ran from 1974 to 1983. The People post also shows the date as January 29, 2025, not 11 hours ago, as the spoof says. This screenshot shows the original post from People's Facebook account:

Netflix (archived here) posted an announcement Jan. 7, 2026, about the new cast of "Little House on the Prairie." While the cast is more diverse than the original Ingalls family, none of the people shown in the post on X are members of the cast. This is the photo of the new cast:

Lead Stories uploaded the image to the Hive Moderation AI-generated content detection tool for analysis. Hive scored it 64.9% likely to be AI-generated content, as this screenshot shows:
