Fact Check: Epstein Files Do NOT Reveal 'Cannibal' Ellen DeGeneres Ate Anne Heche After Murdering Her Not In Files

Do the Epstein files reveal that "cannibal" Ellen DeGeneres ate Anne Heche after murdering her? No, that's not true: The only mention of Heche in the Department of Justice (DOJ) Epstein files is from a newspaper headline in the sidebar of another article. There is nothing in the Epstein files suggesting DeGeneres murdered Heche or cannibalized her body. Heche died after a fiery car accident in August 2022.

The claim appeared in a March 3, 2026, post on X account @JeckovKanani (archived here). It opened with the caption, "The files are a horror movie 😢." The caption on the image of DeGeneres and Heche read:

EPSTEIN FILES REVEAL "CANNIBAL" ELLEN DEGENERES ATE ANNE HECHE AFTER MURDERING HER.

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

A search of the DOJ Epstein files for "Anne Heche" found one file (archived here), an article about Epstein published by the British tabloid the Daily Mail, as this screenshot shows:Screen Shot 2026-03-05 at 3.10.52 PM.png

Heche was not mentioned in the article, but her name appears in the headline of a sidebar for another article on page 28 of the file, as this screenshot shows (red circle added by Lead Stories):

A search of the files for keywords "Ellen DeGeneres cannibal" did not yield any matching results, as this screenshot shows:

Heche, DeGeneres' former girlfriend, died of injuries from a fiery car accident after being taken off life support in August 2022, as PBS reported (archived here).

Had a file been released that said DeGeneres ate Heche after murdering her, it would have been major news. Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching legitimate news reports.
