Conflict in the Middle East

The United States and Israel launched an ongoing military operation against Iran on Feb. 28, 2026, that killed its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in an airstrike on his compound in Tehran. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes against the U.S. and allied targets across the Middle East.

Video analysis

Lead Stories ran the video through Gemini (archived here), Google's AI assistant. It reached these conclusions:

According to the SynthID tool, this video was not made with Google AI. However, there are several indicators that it likely contains elements that are digitally altered or generated using other AI tools.

Analysis of the Video

While the tool did not detect a Google AI watermark, a visual and contextual analysis suggests the following:

  • Visual Inconsistencies: The fire and smoke effects on the Burj Al Arab appear uniform and lack the natural interaction with the building's architecture (such as realistic reflections on the glass or structural damage) often seen in real footage. The 'projectiles' or drones also leave very clean, digital-looking trails that resemble CGI.

A second tool, Hive Moderation AI-Generated Content Detection, concluded the video was "likely to be AI-Generated" with an aggregated score of 100 percent. The higher the score, the greater the AI content:
