Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Cristiano Ronaldo Leaving Dubai Resort After Iran Attack -- Video Is From January 2026 Prewar Video

Does a viral video show soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo leaving a resort in Dubai after an Iranian missile hit his car in March 2026? No, that's not true: The clip predates the most recent escalation in the Middle East. The original video was posted in January 2026, showing him leaving the Bvlgari resort two months before the conflict began in late February.

The claim appeared in a post (archived here) published on X on March 3, 2026. It opened:

One of the missiles reportedly launched by the Iranian military struck some of Cristiano Ronaldo's cars parked at his residence in Dubai. Concerned for his safety, the Dubai authorities have instructed him to leave the country immediately, suspecting the attack was not accidental but deliberately targeted at him. Cristiano and his family are currently en route to Portugal.

The post included two images. This is what they looked like on X at the time of writing:

Though the post implied both images were current, the first picture predated the war. It was a screenshot of a video that has been online at least since January 1, 2026 (archived here). The same clip, but without the graphics, also appeared on YouTube on January 3, 2026 (archived here).

Between Dec. 30, 2022, and the end of December 2025, Ronaldo had a contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and was based in that country. His most recent post on X, published on Feb. 28, 2026, showed a picture of him with other players from the same team. As of this writing, Ronaldo wrote nothing (archived here) about the most recent conflict in the Middle East.

The post reviewed in this fact check went viral amidst conflicting news reports (for example, here and here) on whether Ronaldo left the Middle East for Spain, as Iran hit Dubai (archived here) and other locations in the region in retaliation for the joint U.S.-Israel attack that began on Feb. 28, 2026 (archived here). However, even those articles discussed the supposed flight of Ronaldo's jet from Saudi Arabia, not the UAE, and didn't mention Portugal.

On March 3, 2026, Al-Nassr posted photos of Ronaldo on X, implying that he remained in the country. Those images can be seen here (archived here) and here (archived here).
