Fact Check: Spammy 'A Positive Update' Facebook Posts About Dozens Of Celebrities NOT Real Health Update Viet Spam

Did dozens of celebrities suddenly all post a "positive update" on Facebook after a recent medical procedure or treatment? No, that's not true: The posts, often accompanied by images of the celebrity in question and a quote about "pushing through" a "few health challenges" or asking to "spare a prayer" were mass produced by a network of Facebook pages and websites. The network, managed out of Vietnam, regularly publishes dozens of copies of the same made-up story but swapping in different celebrities as the main character.

One example of such a post (archived here) was published on April 3, 2026 and read:

POSITIVE UPDATE FROM CARRIE UNDERWOOD
Following recent medical treatment, Carrie Underwood -- the globally celebrated artist known for her powerful, raw, and emotionally charged voice -- has shared a heartfelt message with her worldwide fanbase.

"The road to recovery is still long, but I believe in healing -- through strength, through faith, and through all the love you have shown me."
After a period of silence, the beloved singer has spoken, offering reassurance to fans across the globe while openly acknowledging that her journey forward will require time, patience, and resilience. The procedure is now behind her, but her words reflect both courage and vulnerability:
"I'm doing everything I can, but your support means more than I can express."
Now is the moment for supporters everywhere -- friends, fellow artists, and fans across generations -- to stand beside her with love, encouragement, and unwavering support. What matters most is that Carrie Underwood knows she is not facing this journey alone.
For years, she has given the world unforgettable performances and songs filled with emotion, touching millions of hearts with her voice and authenticity. Her artistry, humility, and strength have inspired countless people.
Now, it's our turn to give that love back -- to stand with her, uplift her, and remind her just how deeply she is cherished. 🎤✨

The image that accompanied the post on the "Voices that Rise" Facebook post had a quote that read:

"Throughout my life, music has been my way of serving God and sharing love with the world. Today I find myself facing a significant challenge to my health, but I remain filled with faith and hope. I humbly ask for your prayers - not only for me, but for one another -so that together we may continue to hold fast to faith, compassion, and the healing power of love."

The Facebook page "Voices That Rise" which was used to promote the story had a page transparency tab (archived here) indicating it was run by several people from Vietnam:

The Vietnam connection is significant, since fact-checkers, including Lead Stories, have identified a major source of AI-generated false stories coming from a single operation based in that Southeast Asian country. You can see recent reporting and fact checks mentioning that country here.

A search on Facebook for posts with the phrases "A positive update from" and "following" (archived here) brought up dozens of results with almost exactly the same story but about different celebrities, athletes and politicians, accompanied by very similar images showing pictures of different celebrities with the same quote, or the celebrity in question in a hospital bed, often giving a thumbs-up sign, or a different variation of the "Breaking News" image with a different quote, for example this one with Rod Stewart:

In that image, the quote read:

"I've had a few health challenges in my life, and right now I'm pushing through one more. Your love and support mean everything to me, and I'd appreciate it if you could spare a prayer not only for me, but for everyone facing their own battles. Let's lift each other up with kindness and hope."
