Fact Check: FAKE Donald Trump Post Repeats 'Merz, Lick Eggs' Protest Slogan About German Chancellor, Suggests U.S. Might 'Take Over' Germany Das Fake

Did President Donald Trump, in a social media post, repeat the protest slogan "MERZ, LICK EGGS" about the German chancellor and suggest the United States might "take over" Germany? No, that's not true: The supposed post does not appear on the president's official Truth Social account, and there are no reliable reports that it ever did. Trump has been critical of Friedrich Merz's stance on the U.S. war with Iran but has not repeated the protest slogan or threatened Germany.

The claim appeared in a post and image (archived here) by the @jeremy_passkall account on X on May 5, 2026. It read:

merz, lick eggs

lmao

This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing:

The text included in the fake screenshot read:

In Germany they say 'MERZ, LICK EGGS'. His country doesn't like him. Friedrich is a bad leader. Maybe even WORSE than Angela. We tried to help Germany. NO MORE!

NO MORE US soldiers in Germany. NO MORE German cars. Germany is very poor now. Very bad. POOR FRIEDRICH!

Maybe we should take over like we did in Venezuela. Thank your [sic] for your attention to this matter.

Lead Stories manually reviewed Trump's Truth Social account for recent posts containing the phrase "MERZ, LICK EGGS." The team also searched Trump's Truth -- a website that archives Trump's Truth Social posts -- for the same phrase from Feb. 28, 2026 (the day the U.S. war with Iran began) to May 6, 2026. No date appears on the fake post. No matching posts were found (archived here).

Trump has not used the German protest slogan "Merz, lick eggs" or explicitly threatened to "take over" Germany in any of his posts. Lead Stories searched Google News (archived here) and Yahoo! News (archived here) and did not find any matching reports for "Trump 'Merz, lick eggs' 'take over' Germany." Had the president actually made such a post, major news outlets would have widely reported it.

Trump has criticized Merz twice on Truth Social since the start of the war. The first instance was in a post (archived here) on April 28, 2026. He said:

The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it's OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. He doesn't know what he's talking about! If Iran had a Nuclear Weapon, the whole World would be held hostage. I am doing something with Iran, right now, that other Nations, or Presidents, should have done long ago. No wonder Germany is doing so poorly, both Economically, and otherwise! President DONALD J. TRUMP

The second Truth Social post (archived here) about Merz was made on May 3, 2026. In it, he reposted a story from Breitbart:

Trump Tells German Chancellor Merz 'Fix Your Broken Country,' Mulls Pulling U.S. Troops from Spain and Italy: breitbart.com/europe/2026/05/0 [archived here]
