Fact Check: Photo Does NOT Show Blue Tarp Covering Fence Around Washington, D.C., Reflecting Pool During Late June 2026 Not Current

Does a real photo show a blue tarp covering fencing around the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in late June 2026? No, that's not true: Although the image's origin is unclear, it did not accurately represent conditions on the National Mall as of June 24, 2026. Photos taken by Lead Stories along the Reflecting Pool showed no blue tarps and limited fencing.

The claim appeared in a post and image (archived here) by the @alluring account on Threads on June 23, 2026. It read:

Now we have tarp.

Well at least no more ducks will have to die.

This is what the image included in the post looked like:

Lead Stories visited the National Mall on June 24, 2026, and took pictures showing scenes along the Reflecting Pool. There was very little fencing and no blue tarps:

Additionally, a livestreaming camera at the top of the Washington Monument provides a bird's-eye view of the National Mall. A screenshot (archived here) taken from the EarthCam website at 12:17 p.m. ET on June 24, 2026, also shows no blue tarps along the length of the Mall:

Additionally, fencing erected around the Reflecting Pool ahead of Fourth of July celebrations in the nation's capital is not unusual. It is used for crowd control and to keep people at a safe distance from the areas along the National Mall where the annual fireworks display is launched.
