Fact Check: Video Does NOT Show Trump Asleep Or Unconscious In Oval Office Meeting -- He Briefly Closes His Eyes No Doze

Does a video show President Donald Trump asleep, unconscious, or passed out during an Oval Office meeting in early June 2026? No, that's not true: There is no conclusive evidence that the president lost consciousness. He briefly closes his eyes during the seven-second clip but reopens them about four seconds into it. A longer version of the video shows Trump moving his head and blinking.

The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) by the @HQNewsNow account on X on June 4, 2026. It read:

Trump appears to be completely passed out asleep during his 3pm Oval Office announcement

The original video

The short clip comes from a much longer video of the event where the White House announced (archived here) a $700 million investment in coal plants and a coal export terminal on June 4, 2026.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Michael Zeldin spoke for more than a minute in the segment of the video that also includes the clip used in the social media post. During those 68 seconds, Trump introduces Zeldin, opened and closed his eyes several times, and tilted his head from side to side before thanking Zeldin for speaking. The video (archived here) is queued to Trump's introduction of the EPA chief and embedded below:

While Trump closes his eyes for seconds at a time in the longer video, there is no evidence that he was ever asleep, unconscious, or passed out during the White House event as the social media posts suggest.
