No, that's not true: Online searches show FOCUS Online has not reported about this topic. The video posted on X with a FOCUS Online logo in the corner appears to be part of the Russian influence operation called Storm-1516.
The claim appeared in a post (archived here) by the @Wondersofworld0 account on X on Oct. 29, 2026. It read in part:

The @Wondersofworld0 account (archived here) has the username American Pulse with a profile picture of the U.S. Capitol flanked on either side by the donkey and elephant symbols for the Democratic and Republican parties. The account about page (archived here) says it is based in Pakistan and has changed its username four times since joining X in 2024.
The caption of the post revealed signs of coordinated inauthentic behavior between multiple accounts. Rather than simply offering a sentence or two of commentary with a few hashtags, this post features six variations on the theme. It seems as if @Wondersofworld0 unintentionally copied and pasted six premade captions instead of just one (quoted below). Many of the hashtags target U.S. politics despite the story topic being focused on Germany.

There are scenes of German climate protests, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Bundestag on Oct. 14, 2026, Greta Thunberg and various plumbing fixtures and water metering devices. The audio track dubbed over the B-roll footage consists of a female voice speaking. Lead Stories uploaded a nine-second clip from the video to Hive Moderation where the AI-generated Content Detection tool found the audio was 98.8% likely to be AI-generated (archived here). The transcription of the audio reads:

The images of Merz at the Bundestag in the fake news report came from Oct. 14, 2026. His full 24-minute, 15-second speech is posted on YouTube (archived here) by DRM News. There was no mention in the speech of an "Eco Sanitation Act." The DRM News description of the video (automatically translated by YouTube) reads in part:

Lead Stories also did a site specific search with Google "site:focus.de Merz Eco Sanitation Act" and also searched the social media accounts of FOCUS Online, on X, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. Again, the phrase did not turn up any relevant results.
