Underwater photographer Brandi Mueller published eerie images of aircraft sitting on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean near the Marshall Islands, dumped there by the U.S. military 70 years ago.
Military officials decided the surplus warplanes were too expensive to ship back to the U.S. after Japan surrendered in 1945. Instead, they were sunk in the Kwajalein Atoll.
Mueller's photos -- see the full gallery here -- include Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers, F4U Corsairs, TBF/TBM Avengers, Helldivers, B-25 Mitchells, Curtiss C-46 Commandos and F4F Wildcats.
