Ben Carson: No Muslim Should Ever Be U.S. President

  • by: Alan Duke

Ben Carson thinks being a Muslim should disqualify anyone from being U.S. president because Islam is incompatible with the American Constitution.

Carson, who is in the top tier of GOP candidates trailing Donald Trump, made his statement in an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation," Carson said. "I absolutely would not agree with that."

He would consider supporting a Muslim for congress, but "it depends on who that Muslim is," Carson said. "Congress is a different story."

Any presidential candidate's faith is an issue "if it's inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course it should matter," he said.

As for Obama, he accepts that the president was born in the United States and is a Christian. "I have no reason to doubt what he says."
