New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is big in Belgium, but not in a positive way. After his recent remarks comparing the tracking of immigrants to the U.S. to FedEx tracking packages, Belgian satirical news program "De Ideale Wereld" ("The Ideal World") made him the butt of their "Sla de sloeber" ("Punch the Scoundrel") segment last monday. Belgian reality show couple Harry and Olga took turns punching a picture of Christie's face taped to a boxing ball.
In the segment the central guest or guests of the show are invited to pick one face from a selection of three 'scoundrels' who made the news recently. This face is then put up on a boxing ball and punched by the guest or guests under loud cheering from the studio audience. Last monday's choice was between governor Christie (for his FedEx remarks), Chinese journalists Wang Xiaolu (accused by Chinese authorities of causing the recent stock market crash) and Piotr Cywiński (director of the Auschwitz museum who recently put up showers to cool down guests in the summer heat).
