Watch #BREXIT Live: Brits Quit European Union, PM David Cameron Quits UK

  • by: Alan Duke

The United Kingdom will exit the European Union after the "leave" referendum passed by a vote of 52%-48%. Prime Minister David Cameron saw the vote as a rejection of his leadership and resigned.

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee in the United States, happened to arrive in Scotland to visit one of his golf courses as the results were becoming known. He apparently sees a parallel between the 'leave' sentiment in the UK and his campaign.

Trump ignored that Scotland overwhelming voted to STAY in the EU and that the referendum has renewed consideration of another indepdendence referendum to leave the UK so Scotland could remain in the EU>

Scotland rejected an independence referendum barely two years ago under the assumption that the UK would remain in the EU.

The results sent the British pound into a tailspin -- falling 11% in the early morning hours as the result appeared certain. The news sent U.S. stocks plunging w hen trading began in New York Friday morning.

It was a surprise to most observers, considering polls suggesting the "remain" side had an edge. A low turnout of younger citizens is getting some of the blame for the failure of the remain camp.

The decision brings with it uncertainty since no country has ever left the E.U. and British leaders had not seriously entertained the idea it would come to pass.
