UPDATE: Yes, this was an April Fools Day joke... Check the publication date. The "test" is just some progress bars moving and a message being displayed at the end. Of course a random website doesn't get to access to your browser history or social media data just because you clicked a button.
After years of experimenting Lead Stories has developed an online, browser based test to check a person's vulnerability to online falsehoods. It uses our database of fact checks in combination with browser history data and social media activity of a person to analyze how they have handled previous hoaxes and misinformation in the past. Today only we are offering you the chance to try it out for free before we launch the premium version for paying customers.
If you read our About page you can see Lead Stories has always been at the cutting edge of technology when it comes to tackling online disinformation. Just check out our Trendolizer engine for a good example, the tool we use to track what is currently going viral on the internet and which we use to prioritize our fact checking work.
We also use Trendolizer to spot duplicates of stories we already debunked by combining our database of fact checks with Trendolizer data about newly found stories.
And now we have come up with an exciting new way of using that data: by combining people's browsing history and social media activity with our body of fact checks we can automatically calculate how likely somebody is to encounter misinformation online and even what the probability is that they will share or like it.
In other words, we created a test that tells you exactly how likely it is you will fall for online falsehoods and it works completely in the browser, no need to download or install anything. Just click the button below to start the test and the tool will automatically scan your browser history and social media profiles and will then compare them to our database of fact checks.
NOTE: The test works with any social media profile you are currently logged in to. Please don't use this if you are not on your own computer or phone to protect the privacy of others. Also note: we don't download or store any data during this process so your privacy is safe.
