Hillary Clinton DID NOT Sit On Monsanto's Board Of Directors

Fact Check

  • by: Jeremy Smith

There has been a long standing rumor on the interwebs, that Hillary Clinton is in cahoots with agribusiness giant Monsanto, and at one time sat on their Board of Directors. NOT TRUE.

The folks over at Snopes.com, the "Myth Busters" of the interwebs, recently posted an article clarifying this topic.

Although there have been many, many articles posted stating such things as "Hey liberals: stop falsely claiming that Hillary Clinton was on the Monsanto board of directors", and "No, Hillary Clinton Does Not Work For Monsanto", but the haters just can't stop hating.

A recent article from the Washington Post states:

Hillary Rodham Clinton's ties to agribusiness giant Monsanto, and her advocacy for the industry's genetically modified crops, have environmentalists in Iowa calling her "Bride of Frankenfood" -- putting yet another wrinkle in her presidential campaign's courtship of liberal activists who are crucial to winning the state's Democratic caucuse".

Snopes posted many references, such as Twitter posts, Facebook posts, to show their point that this NOT TRUE information is swirling out there:

Hillary Clinton (not sure if she still is) was a board member for Monsanto, no wonder she is pushing GMO foods. Dig...

According to Snopes:

"It is true that thirty years ago Hillary Clinton began a six-year tenure as a member of Walmart's board of director, an aspect of her past that Ms. Clinton has largely avoided mentioning on the campaign trail".

However, since at least October 2014 rumors have claimed that Hillary Clinton once sat (or currently sits) on the board of directors of agribusiness giant Monsanto as well, despite the lack of any evidence documenting such a connection. The repetition of those rumors increased as the primary elections of the 2016 presidential campaign drew nearer".
