BuzzFeed posted a report yesterday that claimed Donald Trump had deep ties with the Russian government, including the fact that they held compromising material about him involving prostitutes peeing on a hotel bed in Moscow. The scandal was quickly dubbed #GoldenShowerGate by wags on twitter.
The veracity of the report could not be confirmed and BuzzFeed actually admitted as much in the first paragraph of the article:
The allegations are unverified, and the report contains errors.
Quickly more doubts started to emerge about the report and competing claims soon sprang up that it was actually a fabrication based on fake information coming from someone on the infamous 4chan messaging board.
