Fake news website The Underground Report has posted yet another fake story this morning. The latest one is titled: "OBAMA TWEET: TRUMP MUST BE REMOVED, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY". It claims former President Barack Obama tweeted a variation of a quote from Malcom X calling for the removal of Donald Trump.
The article starts off:
Reminiscent of the late Malcolm X, former President Barack Obama took to twitter this morning with an ominous message:
The similarities between Malcolm X and Obama do not end there. Both are practicing Muslims and both advocate violent revolt.
It seems in light of recent news, Obama realized he is cornered and is willing to escalate conflict in an attempt to escape justice.
The problem is that the @BarackObama twitter account never tweeted "Donald Trump must be removed as President, by any means necessary."
At the time of writing, this was the most recent tweet on Obama's account:
We asked. You answered. https://t.co/mAJvko6VqR
-- Barack Obama (@BarackObama) February 17, 2017
Another way you can tell the tweet in the article is fake is the fact that the blue verification checkmark is missing (just compare it to the real tweet above).
This is not the first time The Underground News report is caught posting sloppy forgeries in order to bait gullible people into retweeting their hoax articles.
Despite this reputation the article about the faked tweet is being shared around widely as you can see in the Trendolizer graph at the end of this article. If you notice anyone spreading the rumor around you can help by pointing them to this article here because nobody likes to be caught spreading fake news.
