Fact Check: Joe Biden Does NOT Own One Of The Largest Mansions In Delaware Not Biden Home

Does this photo of one of the largest homes in Delaware show the home of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden? No, that's not true: "Marimon" is one of the largest mansions in Delaware, but has never been the home nor property of Biden.

The claim originated in a post (archived here) where it was published on October 17, 2020. It was captioned:

Biden's huge Delaware mansion, one of largest in the state!

This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing:

The pictured home, named "Marimon," located in Wilmington, Delaware, is one of the largest single-family private homes in the state. It was featured in the August 2, 2018, article, "$12 Million Estate In Wilmington, Delaware" by Homesoftherich.net. It was also featured in the January 24, 2019, article, "17,000 Square Foot Tudor-Style Stone Mansion In Wilmington, DE" by theamericanmansion.com.

The price and square footage of the mansion seems to fluctuate over time. Currently the listings for the five-bedroom, 11-bathroom mansion on Zillow and Redfin do not reflect the numbers in either of the article titles. It is currently listed for sale for $8.6 million and the listed living space is measured at 20,901 square feet. The realtor explained that this was likely due to the below-grade finished basement and the 3,000-square-foot gatehouse being included in the square footage. Along with a pool, tennis court and home gym, the home has a theater, game room and a two-lane bowling alley.

But Joe Biden has never owned the Marimon mansion.

Former Vice President Biden owns two homes in Delaware, these are mentioned in the Town and Country Magazine September 29, 2020, article "All of Joe Biden's Homes, In Photos". This article features four homes: two homes where the Bidens no longer live, a mansion in Mclean, Virginia, which they rented for several years, and a former DuPont mansion that was the Biden home for over 20 years, purchased in 1974 for $185,000 and sold in 1996 for $1.2 million. The two homes he currently owns are in Delaware -- a 6,500-square-foot house he built in Greenville, and a 4,700-square-foot house in Rehoboth Beach.
